Still Soul Mates

by michaelcahill

I didn't know when we were young.

I suspected though. There was a lot of love between us. "Puppy love", we were told.

I went off to college and moved on. She never left my mind. I felt like I made a mistake. But, she moved on too. She married and had children. Maybe she didn't even remember me.

I called her thirty-five years later and we met.

"I'm sorry, Linda. I was stupid. I listened to bad advice…."

She stopped me. "I forgave you years ago, Joseph. Yes, you are stupid. I never would have left you. I have to know something." She took me in her arms and kissed me.

The world vanished, leaving two souls meant to be together. It could not be so, now. But we both knew, it would've been. We were soulmates.

There is still eternity. That is where souls live.
