Smoke At the Wind's Mercy

by michaelcahill

LYRICS AND MUSIC BY MIKEY

smoke at the wind's mercy
no direction of its own
I can dig it like that girl
so lite it up
give us a puff

down by the tracks
that used to carry trains
rust has a life of its own
so I gotta keep polishin'
or infinity will disappear
and all the wind
will slip over the horizon

we wouldn't want to sit around
in a cloud of smoke
can't see too well like that
not enough oxygen
in smokey air

so tired
so asleep
so comatose

but now I'm hearing that rumble
and feelin' that vibration
and that whistles blowin'
that smoke away

who's to say what a train thinks
I never talked to one
but, I love its entrance
makes me want to ride it away
like smoke at the wind's mercy
