crimson raindrops fall

5-7-5 Poem contest entry

I live in Southern California, where we are having many fires. I live in Pasadena, where the Eaton fire was a few miles from my house on January 7th. Luckily the Eaton fire has been contained and things are getting better. For the last couple of days, it has been raining. I thank all of you who have been praying for me and my family, especially Debi Pick Marquette, who created a book of prayers for me. Thank you all!

The Eaton Fire is an active wildfire burning in the Altadena area of Los Angeles County in Southern California. It began on the evening of January 7, 2025, in Eaton Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains. As of January 8, the fire had spread to approximately 14,117 acres. It is one of several fires driven by a compelling Santa Ana wind event, along the larger Palisades Fire. As of January 14, 2025, it is the fifth deadliest fire in California history, having killed 17 people.

Evacuation orders have been sent out to the residents of Altadena, Pasadena (where I live), Kinneloa Mesa, La Canada Flintridge, northern portions of Sierra Madre, Arcadia, and Monrovia, and northeastern portions of Glendale, including most of the San Rafael Hills.

Thank you for reading and reviewing my poem.
