On being a 'leftie'...
I Love My Left Hand
It's nothing sinister, you understand,
but I'm very attached to my left hand
though it sometimes writes what I hadn't planned!
I pick up a pen and then
a line or two comes through
and on I go – you know?
Being a 'leftie' seems a special gift,
a creative tool which I can shift
to write or paint, and that will lift
my spirits high – and then I fly
through dreams and scenes.
It's part of me. It sets me free.
This miracle of bones and skin,
of tendons, nerves, and blood within,
its dextrous skill can make me grin.
From its fingertips to how it grips
are the working parts for creative arts.
So thank you, Lord – I'm never bored.
