Happy 16th Birthday

A chapter in the book Tributes

Andrew

by Debi Pick Marquette

When to my house, you'd often come
You sucked your fingers, not your thumb
You couldn't read the "Marquette" sign
So I told you it said, Don't whine

"Grandma, how much do you love me"
I thought, how sweet can one child be
"My love could never be more strong"
Then I'd say, " Ten forevers long"

We walked the bridge over the creek
Our racing game, each threw a stick
Then to my house, which wasn't far
To make pan of rice krispy bar

By six, science experiments
And after that we made our tents
You wanted to sleep there instead
By morning, you were in my bed

'Twas non-stop fun, did everything
We had our song, that we would sing
The candy hunts, with treasure chest
Please always remember the best

You're always sweet and so kind too
I've loved to watch each inch you grew
With every birthday changed the fun
 Now fishing, deer hunting grandson

As long as I'm around, it's clear
Please know for you, I'm always here
The love we shared right from the start
Will always be in Grandma's heart

From boy to young man, I've been blessed
So cool, you passed your driver's test
I know a child, you could not stay
 Andrew, Happy Sixteenth Birthday
