Let's write a Lento!
Poetry Contest
A poetic form created by Lencio Dominic Rodrigues, the Lento is named after it's creator,
taken from his first name Lencio and affixed to Cento, an existing form of poetry.
This contest was originally brought to you by fellow FanStorian Warren Rodgers in 2010.
REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of two Quatrains with a fixed ENDING rhyme scheme of abcb, defe (the second and fourth lines of each stanza must rhyme). There is no maximum to the number of stanzas but it must be an even number: 2-4-6-8 etc. There is NO fixed syllable structure to the Lento, but keeping a consistent, flowing rhythm is recommended. What sets the Lento apart and IS REQUIRED IS THAT YOU MUST MONORHYME THE FIRST WORD OF EACH LINE IN EVERY VERSE. SEE EXAMPLE AS FOLLOWS (REQUIRED RHYMES IN CAPITAL LETTERS);

STAYING together a big mistake
SAYING those things you hurt me SO
PLAYING happy families hiding the truth
WEIGHING the possibilities you had to GO
YOUR family to them I'm an outcast
MORE lonely I have become each DAY
BEFORE I had a life with many friends
SURE you made them stay AWAY
NOT REQUIRED BUT YOU MAY ENJOY THE ADDITIONAL CHALLENGE;
- Take it one step further (although NOT required) and also rhyme the first and third lines of each verse in the rhyming pattern: abab, cdcd.

HIT YOUR STRIDE

FORGO the games that people play (b)
GROW happy when you hit your stride (a)
ALTHOUGH at times you'll go astray (b)
DENY the pain a place to rest (c)

THEREBY achieving every goal (d)
- Write a double Lento (4 verses) a triple Lento (6 verses) or more as long as the verses come in pairs. It must be an EVEN NUMBER!
