Cass Carlton: Well, it's about time I did an update. My life has changed radically since I joined in 2015, so I'll now put everyone in the picture. My husband of 55years died on 19/02/2019. I went on living in our Housing Trust home, although having Parkinson's disease, I was a lot slower in my household tasks. I did have someone come in once a week to help, but it was, at times, a struggle to maintain the standard I had always set myself. The garden, my pride and joy, had become just green lawn with none of the flowers I'd grown in years past. I had taken to going out a fair bit, on arranged outings with ACH and was enjoying that considerably. Then disaster struck. 23/11/2019 I was heading for the kitchen for a morning coffee when I fell over in the passage, knocking myself unconscious. When I woke up I was prone on the floor with a pool of blood under my nose. My left arm felt distinctly 'weird" with my fingers not being where I thought they were. So, ambulance, hospital and away from home for two months. At last in February of 2020 I went home and was there for two whole weeks. Then, I fell over again and lacerated my left arm. Back to hospital again and the rehab facility I'd been in before. I was ready to leave there when my son dropped the bombshell. He wasn't happy about me living alone any more and neither were the children. So, the long and the short of it was, I moved. Within a few days I had moved to an aged care facility where I now live in the lap of luxury. My meals are all prepared and set before me, my medications are presented at the appointed hours, my slightest needs are noted and where reasonably possible fulfilled. My son, his wife and all their children, ( his'n hers) have always included me in family celebrations, so I don't ever feel left out. No longer having to take care of a whole house, now means I have a lot more time for writing. It is so pleasant to see a contest announced and to have plenty of time to prepare an entry. This year 2022 I intend having an entry in a contest every week. At least one a week, more if I can manage it. Up until recently, my forte in writing has been poetry, but now I feel the urge to break out into prose. Stories, short and long. Perhaps even a novel. Who knows what the future may hold? |
