Hi Harry,
Sometimes daydreaming is fruitful. This is a good poetic retelling of the story of this wartime event also told in the song "Snoopy v. The Red Baron".
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Joan

This is a really good poem in my opinion. The rhyming scheme seems a bit awkward in a few places, but I wonder if this was deliberate. As far as the historical importance, this feels like just how it may have went down. Overall, I'm impressed and will seek out more of your work. Well done.

A wonderfully imaginative piece. I felt like I was right there in the action with the line "bullets whiz by and tear into the red." It has excellent imagery and is a delight to read.

Loved the momentum of this free rhyming verse, Harry! You've skilfully expressed this downing of the Red Baron as though you were there yourself. And so great that the British pilot gets the credit:)) One of my favourite images was bees fleeing from a burning hive. This also enhanced the pace of the verse. Well done! Debbie

What a wonderful poem of the days of heroism and chivalry. I was always a fan, when younger, of DC's "Enemy Ace" which told the story of WW1 aviation battles through the eyes of a German pilot.

A thrilling story, imagining you as the Baron, feeling the air beneath you. If not a flier, sensing your thrill of flying your own craft. No matter. The excitement of this adventure, brought out your raw core. I, myself, love the pace of this read.

I don't know if you are great, but you are a really good poet to me. This is a fine tribute to the Red Baron. If you had named the English pilot, it would have been a tribute to him, but you wisely didn't. It is all von Richtenhoff. Even the British admired his fighting/flying skills.

Well, there was a reason for that. If you know your history - you know that was very controversial. The British pilot given credit for downing Richthofen was Roy Brown. However, there is much controversy over that because the same time Roy Brown was firing at the Baron so was an Austrailian machine gun crew. And they still claim they were the ones who downed the mighty Baron. We may never know for sure. Roy Brown was given credit for the kill.

That's interesting. I hadn't heard about the controversy part. Thanks for letting me know about it.

Well, after thinking about it - I did name the British pilot. He was given credit even though the controversy still exists today. The Austrailians still take credit for it.

Quite the daydream, my friend. No beaches and leisurely strolls for you. Instead you are in the middle of a war and two planes are fighting it out..... Your words put the reader right there. Great job!
