Just be. I am struggling to understand the rules of poetry. There were not many poets in my family, but there were many athletes. I write short stories and just started poetry. I also sculpt, paint, and sing, but that's boring. The structure seems to kill my creativity. Keep going.

Truly exceptional!

Wonderfully done with imagery and flow. Though I have read about the red baron before, this took me on that flight to immortality.

I found myself taking a side: each will be a hero to an audience. In the end I stayed neutral as I respect each who met the fateful call.

A very historic day dream you had that day, Harry. This is a good read about the battle in the skies that sent the Baron to the ground and you put us right there in the clouds watching it all unfurl. Well done.

You did a really nice job in keeping with the rhyme scheme, which can sometimes be hard, especially in poems of historical topics. I would suggest making the font a bit larger, maybe, but that would be my only suggestion.

Well I liked your poem! The good thing about poetry I find is there are no rules! I liked your use of words and it flowed well for the reader so I knew exactly what was happening. Well Done :)

Though the material is the stuff of folklore by now, it's still always a fascinating read as it's based in reality. But it would be way stronger if you decided what form you were writing in. This reads more like a piece of prose that you just decided to cut up into lines of approximately the same length - but 'poetry' is much more than this. It involves meter and rhyme scheme or, if it's free verse, there is still a musicality to it. You have some good instincts about words that have an onomatopoeia to them - but now they need to sing if you want it to be poetry, and that requires rhyme & rhythm (except free verse, but even THAT isn't just a series of even lines. Keep writing, Harry - but start to learn the craft!

As I've often said, when it comes to poetry, I wouldn't know a sonnet from sorbet. But every once in a while, when I have a little extra time, I flip over to the poetry tab and take a look. Thanks to you, today I'm glad I did.
Thanks for sharing.

I like your daydreaming. When I read the title and the saw the artwork, my mind immediately went to Snoopy vs the Red Baron. I know it's silly. I also know the history of Baron Von Richthofen. My husband's a history buff. I learned by osmosis. LOl Thank you for sharing.

Lol! I know I get that a lot about Snoopy. It's funny what people remember about history in association with a cartoon. I appreciate your review!

Ciao!

I enjoyed your account, saw the 1971 film many years ago on The Red Baron.

A few years ago I read that The Baron wasn't hit by the pilot in pursuit who tried to shoot him down but then disengaged and climbed back up to avoid crashing.

The Baron instead, was so low that Australian troops on the ground fired at him as he passed and he was hit and crashed.

The doctors, examining the body, found he had been shot in the right-hand side of his chest, the bullet hit the lung and then the heart.

You still captured the "thrill" of these aerial battles that were considered at the time more as noble warfare between knights.

Those fighting and dying in the muddy trenches had a different outlook.

Yes, you are so right. The controversy exists till this day. Who shot the Red Baron. The British Ace Roy Brown was shooting at him, but so was the Austrailian gun crew. No one really knows for sure, we may never know. Thank you for your review. I really appreciate it!
