A Rima Dissolutas Poem
Vanished by damommy

One twisted tree stands on the hill
where once primeval forests stood,
a home to pixies, elves, and sprites,
and wizards with their magic sway.
A single oak is all that’s left.

No longer heard the whippoorwill,
or tinkling laughter in the wood,
no dancers twirl on moonlit nights
in ceremonial ballet.
A single bole alone, bereft.

Wee village vanished, gone away,
and from the ancient arbor cleft.

A class assignment in Pantygynt's class.

Popular with 12th and 13th century French poets, rimas dissolutas is a Portuguese phrase translating as â??Dissolute Rhymesâ??. The form is one that rhymes and yet doesnâ??t rhyme. For instance, each stanza contains no end rhymes, but each line in each stanza rhymes with the corresponding line in the next stanzaâ??employing an envoi at the end.
For example, hereâ??s how the end rhymes would work in two and three stanza versions of the rimas dissolutas with an envoi.
Note: There are no rules for meter, line length, or syllablesâ??except that these should be consistent from stanza to stanza, so whatever line lengths you choose in the first stanza you must retain in subsequent stanzas.
