You did your best
You raised him all alone
no help at all.
He grew up to be
a bright young man
so handsome, dark and tall.
You were so very proud
of him
he was your pride and joy.
You never saw
any faults in him,
your beloved, precious boy
but he got into
the wrong crowd
and tried to prove he was tough.
Used booze and drugs
and prostitutes
and heaven knows what other stuff.
He landed himself
in trouble
and now he is in jail.
You wonder how you went wrong,
why you had to fail.
Your life is now in ruins.
You've grieved since his arrest
and blame yourself but believe me ...
You have done your best.
