Jonathan was a simple plantation slave
Picking cotton beneath the burning Sun
His day only ending when 'Dusk' had said it was done
He had dreams of freedom, no freedoms they gave
Never earning wages, so there was no money to save
Destitute and scarred, he dreamed of going on the run
Jonathan was a simple plantation slave
Picking cotton beneath the burning Sun
So many slaves now lay in a grave
Jonathan was lucky not to be one
His dreams of freedom had never begun
The poor man was just not that brave
Jonathan was a simple plantation slave

Author Notes
Thanks to avmurray for the picture. I rewrote this as I saw I had nt had the style correct. Is now! Slavery is horrid. I didn't know what to write about but like so many pieces, this came from the unconscious mind.
