Choose One Of The Following Titles writing prompt entry

Dog days of summer. August barked humidity and sweltering heat. Sun giggled as its cascaded rays showered the baseball diamond below.

Springfield Mudhawks assembled in left field. Stood like soldiers in a straight line.

"Cup check," coach yelled.

We all wore cups except for Blaze. Coach knew it. Strolled to the first player in line, Murph. Looked straight into scarety-cat eyes and flicked the bat. Shot to the groin.

Thwack.

The Murph stood tall. Looked straight ahead. Uncomfortable? Grunt was indicative. Passed. Coach continued with identical results.

Thwack. Grunt.

Thwack. Grunt.

"Blaze, you're up."

Nervous energy. Sweat beads rolling. He exhaled and spread his legs. Inverted "V". Tough guy or screwball?

The team directed their attention to Blaze's stone cold look.

Coach's remorse set-in. This brave, pudden-headed soul he thought, before flicking the bat, easily. Mudhawks cringed and watched with amazement. Blaze's face reddened. He coughed. Knees buckled. Fell to the ground. He panted, gasped for breath and lay motionless on his back. Silent. Embraced the pain.

Behind tearful eyes came a snort and chuckle. His face wrinkled in laughter. Mudhawks applauded his heroic efforts.

Coach was impressed. "You left me no choice, son."

"Legendary, Dad, legendary."
