She walked to the well at a snail's pace,
her time flexible, there was no man waiting
at home, no one to care for but herself.
She lived only in the present, the past held
too many haunting memories, the future
promised nothing but more of the same.
Like a present from God the morning air
was cool and crisp with a light breeze,
scattering the dust under her feet,
the cobwebs from her mind.
She spotted the man as she approached.
He sat on the wall, weary from travel.
She was used to men, to their needs and
demands, so she did not flinch when He
commanded her to give Him a drink.
A conversation ensued as she lifted the
dipper with cool water from the well.
Here was a man like none other who did not
want her body like all those before Him.
Rather, He wanted only to save her soul.
She had come to the well troubled, but left
with such joy she could hardly contain it.
Literally dancing down the path the scent
of the lilac bush smelled so much sweeter,
the piney scent of the fir titillated her senses.
Arriving in the city she bid the people go, to
witness this man who proclaimed himself Christ.
Upon opening the door to her paltry home,
spacious possibilities flooded her mind,
her heart overflowed with love.
