Daniel T.Dodd, a caring dad,
stood six feet an a half.
A large and rowdy man was he
with magic in his laugh.
Dubbed 'Big Dan' by all the miners
he worked with every day,
his crew of men all trusted him
in every sort of way.
----
One day, there was an accident.
The men were trapped inside.
Their destiny was certain death.
Rescue was suicide.
Big Dan knew that the odds were grim,
but still, he had to try.
Holding the rocks while they crawled out,
Dan was the one to die.
----
The family's faith was tested
the day that Big Dan died,
but Daniel died a hero's death,
while all his children cried.
The legacy he left behind
has made his children strong,
and to this day, in his hometown,
we praise him in a song.
Chorus
Big Dan, he was a mining man.
He was stalwart and strong.
His men knew they could count on him,
whenever things went wrong.
