Share A Story In A Poem contest entry

 

Golden sun, shining over hay fields,

a drama unfolds; his love he reveals.

He is handsome and pure, and stuffed with ideals,

he goes on one knee, and his heart he yields.

.

A dragon appears in a flurry of wings,

Opens its mouth: a love sonnet it sings.

A table unfolds, a feast fit for kings,

and geese fly by in formations of rings.

.

To pay their own homage, the creatures appear.

Badgers and moles and rabbits and deer.

The cows come next, the sheep draw near,

and cats up a tree shed an emotional tear.

.

The scene is quite beautiful, it oozes good will.

Feelings are bursting, the joy and the thrill.

But the sounds stop suddenly, the world stands still.

A premonition of horror sends forth a chill.

.

A voice from outside; the scene to destroy.

"Henry, wake up, you lazy little boy",

"You're late for school, let go of that toy".

The doll drops to the floor; poor Helen of Troy.

Photo is near Wakkerstroom. The sun came out 10 minutes later, and lit up the fields with a golden glow. Sadly, I was already driving at the time, but the image stuck with me to use one day.
