like liquid gold for him,
to spread across

like stones and secrets
into sand.

And he moves
beneath the cover of

he strips

of farewell.

Our ragged breath
is rising, falling,

drawn to drown
the dreaded
coming end.

The daylight takes
its final golden stretch, and I'm
in love.

But I turn my back
on the horizon's view;

to watch
the summer sunset
