Boat That He Took to the Lake by Debi Pick Marquette

In boat that he took to the lake

Was where he'd be to catch some fish

And hopefully that night he'd make

A walleye that would be delish

As he was putting on his coat

In boat that he took to the lake

He was getting ready to float

But looked down and he saw a snake

That is when he started to shake

When he first saw him on the floor

In boat that he took to the lake

Inside of it were many more

So fast out of the boat he'd get

He wished he had a hoe or rake

Where those snakes stayed all night, I bet

In boat that he took to the lake

Author Notes
My husband hates snakes. I grew up catching snakes with my brothers, so I have no fear of MN snakes. So when he got home from his fishing trip I picked them up and threw them off into the grass. He just shook his head and laughed.

Please forgive my ungrammatical line of on boat that he took to the lake, as it was easier to deal with it on that line than to correct all my other lines that did not go well with the boat that he took to the lake. And throwing it off meter was not an option.

Thanks to Helen for teaching me the quatern, consisting of four, four line stanzas. The first line gets moved down a line and repeated each stanza.
