A lament against chilly weather, praise of summer
Summer Segue by M. Kari Barr
Sonnet Poetry Contest contest entry

When Winter’s harsh and chilly grasp is lost

It’s not to gentle days of sun and cheer.

Nor is it frozen as before with frost

It’s met with rain and windy days I fear.

Then Spring her entrance comes like painted song

She soothes away the dreary dreadful days

With greens and colors bright which we have long

Awaited; scents and seasons soon segue—

Into sweet Summer’s welcomed warmth, we sigh.

This never-ending dance through time we flow

And summer days and nights just tend to fly

Too fast before we see Fall’s rust tableau.

It’s Summer’s segue, wrought with warmth we crave

As through the changing seasons we must brave.
