i move in a haze

pinned under all this golden weight—

i need something sharp,

something cold

to cut me to the bone

count my teeth,

repeat after me

feel it shine,

on the edge of my seat

let it hang,

give it just a moment

before it all shatters

across calamity

as all that came before

to shape me, break me

take me under downy wings

and let me go,

freefall back to it all

feathered promises,

always so light

easy to ignite

all lit up, forest fire

find it in the ashes,

first wildflowers of spring

something warm, after all
