Author Notes
Blue tit - Cyanistes Caeruleus (Latin name) - both words relating to blue.
Cerulean derives from the Latin meaning "sky" or "heavens."

Currently nesting in a hole in the wall outside my bedroom window which is early even for these little lovelies! They (or their offspring) tend to return every year to their little abode which is particularly snug because they have an inner mud sanctum inside to exclude any larger intruder (in this case, due to their small size, just about the entire bird population:)). They also have a very handy budding quince bush below which supplies much of their food shopping needs!

The blue tit is a delicate little bird, weighing in at 11g - half the size of a robin. It is extremely colourful with a bright blue cap, white face, black stripes across the eyes, bright yellow breast and blue, green and white wings. Both sexes are very similar. Their habitat is woodlands, nests and gardens, nesting in holes in trees or, just as happily, in nestboxes. They are active feeders hunting out insects and spiders among the smaller branches of trees and bushes. They have a trilling tsee-tsee-tsee song. Perhaps to do with their attractiveness to predators, they are particularly swift and acrobatic in flight.
