Sonnet Humor contest entry

I had to find a dog that didn’t shed,

unlike our former golden labrador,

which molted all about the floor and bed,

‘til we just couldn’t take it anymore.

We sent him to a farm and shopped around,

for puppies known to keep their fur intact;

both sheepdogs and some collies could be found,

but they lost hair like sea salt from a sack.

Pincers, pitbulls, terriers inspected,

proved none had any charm to make them dear;

finally, a poodle was selected,

which filled the bill and started living here.

It’s been a while and no fur has been found;

the poodle does pee puddles all around.
