Seasons of the Mind

                  I

I sit with nothing but my thoughts.
Dredged up so often from those oughts.
Those that stir a heap more wonder.
Why did society fall asunder?

What about that forbidden fruit up high?
It is too sad that "good fruit" caught Eve's eye.
Was it a lemon, lime or date, or peach?
What if those apples had been out of reach?

Centered in the garden was the Tree of Life,
the fruit which gave humanity a lifetime forever
That other trees' fruit would bring death to man.
Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Sin began.

Thus, the first act of disobedience
that they committed brought expedience
Because God said, "Do not eat the fruit of these."
and this is where "free will" started, you see.

So, I ponder this as I sit still.
Praying in the presence of God, until
I came to a place of utter knowing,
As I lean into a fruit tree growing.
