Children: Lilies of the Field by Tom Horonzy

In giving thought to life in general, I see a sea of blooming lilies in a well-kept field and think how children are akin to those God-given beauties.

When given care and nourishment, rhizomes will rise tall, stretching skyward, appreciative of the source which gave them life, perhaps, or storing sunlight to stay warm on frigid Spring nights.

As children of a most-high God, we might raise our eyes and voice a prayer, expressing thanks for whatever we have been given, for we have been gifted all we have.

Many don't. Why is that? Neglect? Unknowing faith? Whose fault would that be? Parents? Who were assigned to be caretakers to their kin as written in Proverbs 22:6. "Train up children in the way they should go; even when they age, they will not depart from it."

Leaving kids to fend on their own could expose them to arbitrary and oppressive forces, as flowers do, if not maintained in a weed-free environment. Moreover, both will struggle to survive if left to fend independently.

Be good to them. Till the environ where they lay. Quench their thirst with living waters and enhance their chance to survive and multiply, making our world a more sublime place to live.
