Lucia’s Violin

Oft times when evening dims,
The wind plays soulful hymns,
That take me to a time of long ago;

When moonlight lit the shore,
And stars would underscore,
The murmur of the sirens soft and low.

I hear the angels sigh; I feel the willows cry
Amid the doleful sound of love’s goodbye.
And still the voices call, and yet the raindrops fall
On ev’ry strand of ivy on the wall.

Before the light of dawn
When wistful shades are drawn
A quiet whisper tells me to move on

For now within my sight,
A path of fading light
Is heading to forever and beyond.

I turn for one last glance, in hope of one more chance,
To savor moments in this sultry dance;
To whirl among the spheres, recalling all the years,
And let pure joy replace impending tears.

But as the vision fades,
Emotion soon cascades,
And leaves me with a yearning deep inside.

For time has traced a line,
A chill runs down my spine,
As fate has drawn me to this ebbing tide.

I know the time has passed; the night is waning fast,
As dreams dissolve within a veiling mist.
And yet I can’t let go, those thoughts of long ago,
The memory of when my soul was kissed.
