Forest Memories
Through the verdant woods we wandered,
where I walk now, all alone.
Are you there, behind the willows,
or is it true, you're really gone?
Far above, the forest voices
softly whisper out your name.
Spanish galleons float above me,
as I search for you, in vain.
Remember how the forest creatures,
fled from us at first, in fright,
only to return and slumber
near us where we stayed that night?
The icy stream, I see, still tumbles.
I hear its greeting soft as rain,
as the sun casts hues and shadows,
making memories dance again.
I stumble on that shady hollow,
where our hearts merged sweet together.
The begging carpet, soft and fragrant,
verdant grass and blooming heather.
You looked up at Galleons sailing,
trailing gown now falling free,
one hand resting on the tree trunk,
the other reaching out for me.
The amber sash that bound your secret,
lay unheeded on the ground.
Your beckoning sigh of rapture caught me
as I lowered gently down.
Soon our voices filled the treetops,
ancient muse's melody.
The ballad sung of love's caresses,
of heart and soul, and ecstasy.
The gift you gave, the tithe you took,
is measured in heartbeats and tears.
My soul, my very spirit tempered,
brings me, longing, once more here.
