: Bedecked, But For Naught by JLR

Our home all bedecked
the Douglas fir scent fills the air,
Stockings hung with great care.

The children's favorite carols checked.
Silent Night ready for all to share
gifts made ready, bows and ribbons here and there.

We sit at the ready, the lists all rechecked
rocking together, we reminisce of memories that flare,
when into the warm hearth we both suddenly stare.

With the feeling of anguish, we both suspect
crashes in waves as we drop a tear,
our grandchildren due to Covid can't come this year!
