Reflecting on the day my eldest son went to college.
Goodbye
Goodbye
I sat down one day,
a lot on my mind, something to say.
My oldest son had just left,
off to College, he went away.
Branching out, spreading his wings,
at home no longer where he wanted to stay.
A swirl of emotion flooded through me that night,
my brain overwrought.
I cleared my head and after drying my tears
I collected my thoughts.
So, I texted him,
because that is what we do.
Now, reflecting back
I believe what I wrote to be true.

There comes a time in every man’s life, (or that of a dad with a son/sons), where he must face certain eventualities. The physical surpassing of the younger (many years ago, in this case lol) over the older. Then he must suffer the indignity of the intellectual surpassing as well (not quite there yet lol). I have come to grips with all this because you have proven to be a fine young man! I’m proud of you and love you!
His response was short,
no rhyme and no verse.
He has never shown a gift for writing
for better or worse.
He simply replied:
I love you dad. You're why I am the way I am.
My heart filled with pride, at what his message said.
So, although he has moved away I keep it in my head!
