Expectations

by Jesse James Doty

Expectations from a parent

can weigh heavy on a child.

As the child grows into an adult

acceptance is what they ultimately need.

Expectations have a way of eroding values

of the child and parent.

Their morals decay, sending them reeling

from the aftermath of societal decline.

Acceptance brings joyful self-awareness.

Children will become valuable adults

with loving partners who express kindness.

Parents, it is time to let go of expectations.

A conversation inspired this with a friend who visited their parents over the weekend. Their parents would not accept them as they became free-thinking adults.
Thanks for reading and reviewing. Also, thanks to Sue Smith for her helpful suggestion.
