Mountain Run Off

Spring in the Mountains

by Cecilia A Heiskary

The mountains are snow capped in white
And the spring melt is quite the sight
It's flowing like a waterfall
With chunks of ice so very small

The sun is out and shines so bright
Like diamonds glistening in light
And as the waterfalls get large
The more it melts, the more discharge

The river swells over the banks
Its flooding almost seems like pranks
And wild flowers all get their share
With water going everywhere

The river flows toward the ocean
With such a roar of commotion
It's always at this time of year
The merge takes place where there's no fear

The cold mountain flow is now done
The forest animals don't run
Spring's over now and summer comes
And turns the seeds to grapes and plums
