Redemption

by Debi Pick Marquette

They whipped and tortured Him that day

A trouble maker they would say

And yet He had done nothing wrong

They said that He did not belong,

A crown of thorns on His forehead

With spears they jabbed; His body bled

Blood dripped from where they pierced His hands

And who of us here understands

Where they had nailed Him to the cross

Loved ones would weep there for their loss

Forgiveness for soldiers He'd ask

His love for them He would not mask

What He endured seemed so unfair

I know I helped to put Him there

I have done wrong, but I've no fear

Because my conscience now is clear

God loved us so He sacrificed

His Son, He gave who lived and died

On Good Friday with our hearts poured

We thank You for Redemption, Lord
