A medieval tale of obsession.

Woodland Witchery

by LisaMay

She held a quill and wrote poetic words
Words that formed a poem in looping lines
Lines admitting sentiments of sin
Sin of lust and greedy envy’s grand designs

Designs she has to keep him for herself
Herself alone — this is her vow
Vow she made to keep him shut away
Away she’ll take him; no better time than now

Now she’s heard the whispered rumours
Rumours of his wandering eye and lack of truth
Truth be told, bewitched is she and knows
Knows she cannot lose this handsome youth

Youth for her is something from the past
Past is gone, but she still has a comely form
Form a plan is what she does intend
Intend to satisfy obsession’s storm

Storm has passed as the lovers shelter below
Below the swaying trees she loops her arms
Arms around his neck to hold him close
Close and closer still with womanly charms

Charms and chanted spells as potions bubble
Bubble trouble as the witch wand waves
Waves its magic, looping through the air
Air of mystic woods and waiting graves

Graves that yawn and bide their stealthy time
Time ticks on. He’s tied with loops of silken thread
Thread binds them close forevermore
Forevermore a prisoner, he’s filled with dread

“Dread thee not, for death is but a dream
Dream deep and sleep in my embrace
Embrace the fact that you are tied to me
Me and you, forever in this place.”
