Loving Covid Comfort Food

by Debi Pick Marquette

Lord, please give me a sign, if you think I eat too much
Seems that since Covid hit, food's become a crutch

Everything I thought about, always looked like food
And everything I looked at, always looked so good

I suppose it would be helpful, if I didn't add the butter
Eating dry popcorn, while talking makes me stutter

At times I'm really hungry, but often I'm just bored
News of many shortages, I even thought to hoard

And as I found myself, watching television more
Ice cream called my name, and I could not ignore

It wouldn't been so bad, then I had to have some chips
Now what kind of soda, goes with chicken strips?

It soon becomes a habit, as I always had to snack
My metabolism's gone, completely out of whack

I found myself hiding food and eating on the sly
Hubby said to slow it down. I answered, "when pigs fly"

Then many restaurants, started to deliver
I'm thankful I'm not drinking too, at least I'll save my liver

While I make excuses, thankful I no longer smoke
But eating all this food, could still cause a bad stroke

Covid was a problem for more than just the virus
While forced to stay at home, eating had become a crisis

I'm happy things are better; think I'll dance a little jig
I no longer need that sign Lord, so you can get rid of the pig
