Mandy surveyed her treasures; a locket from Daddy, family pictures, and Bailey, her one-eyed bear. This was her sanctuary.
She picked up her suitcase and closed the door.
I can do this.
Mommy waited at the bottom landing. They hugged.
Their eyes met, but neither spoke.
Just ask me not to go.
Grandma honked the horn, waving. “See you in two days.”
Mandy pressed her nose against the window. "I'm not Daddy. I'll be back.”
