"Thoughts for Sandra-Stoner Mitchell"

Prologue
Thinking of Sandra

By Pam (respa)

I am writing this for Sandra-Stoner Mitchell. Her youngest brother Ian passed away  on November 12, 2023 after a long battle with illness. He was in the hospital and decided he wanted his medicines stopped.

I asked Sandra if she wanted a book posted so people could offer their words of comfort. She indicated that she would appreciate that. As you can imagine, the family is devastated. Ian was sixty years old.

If you want to add to the book, choose prose or poetry. Do that before you post anything. I know that Sandra will appreciate whatever you want to say.

Thank you,

Pam (respa)

Author Notes I chose an image of a forest in England from pixabay for Sandra's brother.

Chapter 1
For Sandra on Ian's Homegoing

By Pam (respa)

A sibling’s love’s a treasured gem
from childhood stems
this common bond
joint roots have spawned

A sickly sib absorbs mom’s care
Less time to share
But love can flow
As needs will grow

A family will rally ‘round
Such love’s profound
But time to part
Is much too hard

Author Notes Notes:
Sandra Mitchell's youngest brother, Ian, passed away yesterday. She shared that he suffered from childhood diabetes and many other health issues. I think it says so much about Sandra and her family that their bond of love is so strong. I have known some who were resentful of the extra attention a sickly sibling always received. But other families grow closer together as they strive to improve their brother's wellbeing. May the Lord comfort their whole family.

Thanks to Pam for creating this book!

Chapter 2
For Sandra - Our Brothers

By Pam (respa)

I feel your loss, I feel your pain
But memories with us remain.
Of all the times our brother's shared
Our lives, our love, for them we cared.

You know dear Sandra he's with you
Now in your heart, that is so true.
And every time you think of him
You'll feel his love for you within.

Although you're sad, and tears run free
I hope you'll feel this hug from me.
My deepeset sympathy I'll say
Because I share your grief today.

Christine 14/11/2023

Author Notes This poem is for Sandra-Stoner Mitchell who lost her dear brother Ian recently, and I wanted her to know that I know exactly how she feel (as I lost my brother 3 years ago and his loss is still so hard for me. So, Sandra this is my tribute to you for both our dear brother's. May you find peace in his beautiful memories

Christine

Chapter 4
Thinking of You

By Pam (respa)

Dear Sandra, I know you hurt, and so very much. I can't even begin to find the words to say how very sorry I am. What I do realise, though, is that you and Ian were really close.

I have known for a long time that your little brother always struggled with his health. But it doesn't make it any easier

I wish there was something I could do, but there is nothing I can say or do that could possibly ease the pain you are going through right now.

All I can say is that my thoughts are with you and your family. I just hope, that the good memories will one day come to the fore. Your friend, Ulla xxx

Chapter 5
When You Wish Upon A Star

By Pam (respa)

Dear Sandra,

I wish I knew what to say, what to write, but I don't. Losing somebody we love is the toughest part of being a alive.

Even though we have never met in person yet, I like you a lot. You are always so warm and kind. And I'm sure your brother Ian was a lovely person too.

Grieving is a long process, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. These probably sound like empty words. However, I know how you feel as I lost my kid sister five years ago. She was only forty-eight.

Ian will live on in you and the rest of his family. It's not goodbye, it's see you later.

I'm typing away on my computer, in my study, surrounded by pictures of my father and my sis. Nobody can steal our memories. And, more importantly, I want to believe that we'll be together again soon.

Your brother is waiting for you. When you look up at the sky, you'll see him in every star. When you visit places where you shared special moments, he'll be there even if you can't see him.

I'm so sorry for your loss and now it's time for me to shut up because it's difficult to know how to comfort someone in this kind of situation and I've probably rambled too much already.

Sending you a million hugs. x

Chapter 6
Rest in Peace Ian!

By Pam (respa)

Dear Sandra,
May God bless you and your family as you go through this trial of loss.
You are a very sweet and dear friend on this site to many.
I am so very sorry for your loss of your younger brother, Ian.
May Ian rest in peace!
love, prayers and peace my friend, Teri

Author Notes I was so sorry to hear of Sandra's youngest brother passing. It is a hard thing to go through when we lost a close family member. My love and prayers are with her and her family. Stay strong Sandra! We all love you very much!

Chapter 8
Sadness for Sandra

By Pam (respa)

We were so saddened by the news
Wish there were words to say
A dear friend’s heart now sings the blues
Her brother passed away

Although he's in a better place
It’s hard to accept now
We know our friendship can't replace
But like to help somehow

We will be there to hold your hand
The friends that you're among
So many of us understand
I lost two that were young

Wish we could take away your pain
And try to make it cease
Some of that heartache will remain
But slowly it will ease

One day the sadness starts to fade
But it may take a while
Then memories that you two made
Again will make you smile

I hope you know you're in our prayers
Our love to you we send
And know how everybody cares
We're here for you, dear friend

Chapter 9
Into His Arms

By Pam (respa)

The loss is hard to bear
Years of growing together
And Time decides its enough

Time, is relentless
with no backward glance, it
plunges us off the precipice

But the ever gentle arms of His
catch us as we fall
Into His embrace are enfolded

Those left to mourn
take comfort in this thought
Till our call comes...

Author Notes Thank you N Mishra for the use of the picture

Mango is a five year-old beagle living in Paducah Falls. Her very best friend in the world, Bert, is an eleven year-old St. Bernard living three doors away from Mango.

Mango became aware of Bert’s lack of playfulness over the past couple of days and decided to get to the bottom of the situation.

Putting on her Sherlock Holmes looking hat and spectacles and with pencil and paper in paw, she went over to Bert’s house to begin her investigation …

Mango knocked and walked in the front door. She found Bert lying in front of the toasty fireplace on this chilly November morning. Something out of the ordinary for Bert.

“Hiya, Bert,” Mango joyfully said. She wanted to keep the mood light for her bestie.

“Oh, hi there, Mango. What brings you here?” Bert responded without lifting his head.

“Bert, you’re my best friend in the whole wide world. Something’s bothering you. I can tell.” Mango adjusted her deerstalker hat and flaps. It was too big for her head, but didn’t let that deter her motive.

“Mmmmm…”

“Come on big-fella, spill the beans; let the cat out of the bag; you can tell me anything. I can handle it,” Mango said trying to console Bert.

“Mango, it’s my younger brother, Bruno. He passed away the other day.”

“That’s cool,” said Mango. “He passed this way? Where was he going?”

“No. He didn’t pass this way, Mango. He passed away. He died and I didn’t get to say good-bye.”

“Mango's eyes dropped and became teary. “Oh, Bert. I’m so sorry.” Mango cuddled next to her friend.

“I know you are. I didn’t want to tell you because you’re so young.” Bert put his huge paw on Mango, hugging his friend.

Of course his paw spun Mango's deerstalker hat covering her eyes with the flaps, sending her into darkness.

Without moving, her eyes still covered Mango responded, “Bert, I may be little, but I’m pretty smart and I’m your friend. You’re my best friend, remember? I’m here for you.”

“I know you’re all that, Mango. Thank you.”

Removing her cap, Mango said, “Bert, Mama says that God works in mysterious ways and… that… we can’t always understand. Mama would also tell you that God had his reason for taking Bruno. He has something very special planned for Bruno to do in heaven.”

“Your mama is a very smart beagle, Mango and it rubbed off on you!”

“Rubbed off? Where’d it go?”

“Oh, Mango, don’t you ever change.”

Sandra, if this got you to smile, even for only a few seconds, to me it's well worth it.

Chapter 11
Ian Lives in Your Heart

By Pam (respa)

Gone from this earth, Ian has flown
far from all pain, to peace unknown.
Listen for him in trilling birds~
his spirit speaks, but not in words.

In time your grief-filled heart will mend,
sweet sibling love will never end.
Ian's love sparks in ev'ry star~
Mem'ries won't let him roam too far.

Brother and sister, ever true!
Ian is watching over you.
Blue is the hue of sorrowed grace~
wrap yourself in God's sweet embrace!

Chapter 12
Eternally ours

By Pam (respa)

They share
in our existence
companions from birth,
woven tightly
into the fabric of everyday
comforting
and familiar

They live
in every moment
subtle, yet unyielding
etched in our consciousness
stars of our memories

They linger
through our journey
from childhood onward,
every twist, they take
they turn alongside us

They leave
a profound emptiness
in their departure
our fabric pulled,
altered
we begin to unravel

They shift
entire worlds
with their absence
an empty expanse
a silent melody

They transform
elemental
the sun's warmth,
their embrace
the wind,
their laugh
a familiar comfort

They stay
in our journey
They become
our destination
They are
eternally ours

Author Notes Sandra, my heart goes out to you. I may not know you well, but I know what it means to lose a sibling. I am so very sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Xoxo

Chapter 13
Joy will seal

By Pam (respa)

There's really nothing I can say,
would ever take the pain away.
But I can stand with you and pray
that God brings joy all through each day.

They say that time can ease the pain,
yet in your heart sings grief's refrain.
I've lost a brother. so I know,
that grief's cold winds inside you blow.

But light all darkness will repeal,
and seize what healing's end will seal.
For in your loss compassion's sown,
within your heart you're not alone.

Yet in your mind the mem'ries merge,
and in the morning hope will surge.
And what was lost, it's hope you'll gain,
for in grief's flood comes love's sweet reign.

R.Owen 16/11/2023

Author Notes This is for a good friend and someone I care about, Sandra

For me I know that death is not the end but simply a new beginning,
for in lifes loss is a new day.
I have known loss, my own dear brother died just a few years ago, but out of all lhe long dark nights, the dawn still brings a new day, and the past is left behind.
Psalm 30:5 says.
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. NIV

Thanks for reading. R.Owen

Chapter 14
Ian's Constellation

By Pam (respa)

Ian’s Constellation

                                                   Another soul has risen
                                                   To be among the stars.
                                                   There’s peace in elevation
                                                   And beauty from afar.

                                                   He's joined a constellation
Of beams that shine each night,
                                                   A lantern for the journey
That guides us to the height.

                                                   The view from earth exalted,
                                                   The majesty of peace,
                                                   A light that burns forever
                                                   And never will decrease.

                                                   He is a bright reminder,
                                                   The joy that there awaits,
                                                   A lamppost on each corner

                                                   Of heaven's pearly gates.

Author Notes For Sandra and Ian, connected by the stars.

Chapter 15
Dear Ian

By Pam (respa)

Dear Ian,

Life for you was a bitter pill,
Others had strength while you were ill,
and yet, you lived.

Where some had freedom, you were bound,
Your dreams, your hopes could not be found,
and yet, you loved.

Once you knew health, then it declined,
Once you kept pace, then fell behind,
and yet, you laughed.

Your soul, your joy, your love lives on,
Though you'll be missed, your pain is gone,
you lived, loved, laughed.

Ian, Dear.

Author Notes Thank you VMarguarite for your beautiful artwork, sister and brother, on FanArtReview.

Most of you who know me, know I'm not much on poetry, but I tried, and my heart is there if my form is not.

Chapter 16
Baby Brother

By Pam (respa)

Farewell for now, Baby Brother

Stars aligned to the fate of fragility

Sixty years battling a valorous fight

But now, Baby Brother

Stand up and seek your way home

Where more awaits

A man cut from your intrepid fabric

Our bond is forever and always

I have no doubt we shall meet again

Time is but a wrinkle between a breath

Encapsulated in the middle of the air~~~

Be at peace now, Baby Brother

Free of struggle and light of mind

You will always be right here with me

Held within the love

Of a big Sister's unconditional heart.

Author Notes For my dear friend Sandra-Stoner Mitchell...
from my heart to yours.
Rest Easy Ian~~~

Chapter 17
I'll Be There-- For Sandra

By Pam (respa)

When the family gets together for Christmas,
I'll be there.
You'll reminisce about the food I liked best,
the way I smiled and laughed
at all the funny tales you told.

When you remember special occasions,
I'll be there
to share your joys and triumphs
and your accomplishments
to shed a tear when sadness fills your eyes.
You'll feel my hand reach out to lend support,
the way that you supported me.

When winter deprives us of sunshine
and brings on long, cold nights
I'll be there
to bring some warmth
as you sip tea and look at photos
of us in our younger days.

When springtime comes at last,
I'll be there
As hope renews with each aspiring flower
and Easter showers with promises of Eternal life.
Please know I haven't gone away.
I promise I will stay close by.

Author Notes Picture found on Bing Images. I believe Ian will always be there for Sandra, and she'll continue to feel his presence.

Chapter 18
Peace to You

By Pam (respa)

Though I do not know you,

Pam messaged me today

about your precious brother.

I'm sad he went away.

No words can e'er describe.

the feelings of my heart

for this loss you have

that's torn your world apart.

One thing I know for sure.

Our God can get you through.

His peace surpasses all

and reaches down to you.

Please know that I will pray

you feel that peace today

and know that our Lord's hand

will guide you all the way.

Author Notes I will be lifting you and your family up to the Lord. We recently, very suddenly, lost my husband's healthy dad, so we understand a tiny bit of what you all are going through. We hope you feel our support. Hugs and prayers:)

Chapter 19
Ascension

By Pam (respa)

Ascension
by D Dawn Munro
copyright 2023

My heart just broke for you, my friend -
I'm sorry for your loss,
and if, somehow, your pain would ease,
with gold I would emboss
these words, so trifling, nothing said
might be the better way
to tell you how I hurt for you,
how ceaselessly I'll pray...
But Sandra, I know well YOU know
that angels guide him home,
so picture that - envision Light
that overcomes the Gloam.

Rest In Peace, Ian.

Chapter 20
Rondelet Prayer for Sandra

By Pam (respa)

Lift sorrow’s load
that weighs so heavy on her chest
Lift sorrow’s load
In You all griefs and pains bestowed
so she can breathe and fully rest
restored, refreshed, with love she’s blessed
Lift sorrow’s load

Author Notes Notes:
The Rondelet is a French form consisting of a single septet with two rhymes and one refrain: AbAabbA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats. The refrain is written in tetra-syllabic or dimeter and the other lines are twice as long - octasyllabic or tetrameter.

Sandra Mitchell is in the hospital with asthma and pneumonia. Please pray for her healing and comfort. My poem is a prayer for the lifting of the pain and infection in the lungs as well as the lifting of the pain of grief. My PT told me we hold our grieving in our lungs.

The verse that comes to mind is Isaiah 61:3
to console the mourners in Zionā??
to give them a crown of beauty for ashes,
the oil of joy for mourning,
and a garment of praise for a spirit of despair.
So they will be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.

Chapter 21
On Faith Rely

By Pam (respa)

Our heart’s a home,
A special place where we unwind.
Our heart’s a home~
When filled with love, we will not roam
Because we care, we’re intertwined.
It’s something rare that’s not defined~
Our heart’s a home.

On faith rely
To bring her comfort, ease the pain.
On faith rely
And fill her heart so love’s close by,
Then rays of hope will oft remain.
Allay her fears and peace sustain~
On faith rely.

Author Notes -Thanks to lyenochka (Helen) for adding her poem Rondelet "Prayer for Sandra" to the book and for sharing about Sandra being in the hospital with asthma and pneumonia.

-She inspired me to use the same form to share my thoughts for Sandra.

-Thoughts and prayers are with you, Sandra, so you recover and get back home soon.

Chapter 22
Bah, Humbug, Mrs. Doolittle!

By Pam (respa)

They're knocking at the fire door -
I hear their little voices.
It's freezing out, but peanuts are
the reason squirrel rejoices.

I don't want friends in every squirrel
and every hungry pigeon,
and just this once I wish that they
would let me sleep a smidgeon.

Instead, they seem to think that I'm
related to the doctor...
You know the one - the vet who hears
them talk - yet I'm no proctor

when nutty squirrels fight the birds
to steal their seed - they're cheating!
You'd think that they could understand
that sparrows, too, need eating!

But after all, it's Christmas so
I'll have to get some peanuts.
The little pests expect a meal,
and they can't eat the cold cuts.

I have a plate inside the 'fridge,
for guests who'll be here later.
A party for our real friends -
to squirrels, I do not cater!

But Mrs. Squirrel is waiting there,
and bringing me a present.
I'd open up and give her food
so she would think I'm pleasant

but truly, I would rather not -
she'll run amok inside here,
(and my friend, Sandra, seems to think
that means she's full of good cheer)!

The pest invites her friends inside!
My living room gets messy!
I ask you, is it funny then
that I get rather testy?

Bah, humbug! I will get them nuts,
but Christmas is for people!
But then I look across the street
and on the church's steeple

are dozens of the little things,
and every squirrel is smiling.
I must admit, the furry rats
seem suddenly beguiling.

The church bells chime and I swear squirrels
are singing Christmas carols!
I have a store of hazelnuts
I put aside in barrels

and walnuts, almonds, acorns too -
I'll have them in for dinner...
I know YOU'LL be delighted and
your hubs will call me 'winner'.

But please, get out of bed, my friend -
the creatures all are calling!
When you're not here to cuddle them
it's ME they will be mauling!

Author Notes I am praying for your speedy recovery, dear friend. (They say laughter IS the best medicine... I hope you are laughing!) I already wrote a poem of condolences about your terrible loss, sweet one -- I know how close you and Ian were. But you know he would be SO upset to know his sister is sick. Please get better! Love, DD
